The Zither Teachers‘ Quartet of Vienna

Founded in 1989 with the aim of promoting their extraordinary instrument the quartet is now renowned for the high virtuosity of its members and excellent representation of all styles of music. With performances at some of the world’s most famous concert halls such as Wiener Musikverein, Tokyo Suntory Hall or the Sidney Opera the quartet has introduced the zither to a wide audience across the world.
Their concerts include tours to many other countries such as Iran, Germany, Italy and, of course, Austria. Everywhere the quartet surprises the audience with a vast variety of music styles ranging from Baroque to modern music, most of which many people would not expect to hear on the zither.

The zither is a unique instrument the sound of which reminds many people of a harp or cembalo. But it is more than that. With up to 40 strings the zither is apt for any kind of music and for every concert hall in the world. The musicians of the Zither Quartet of Vienna are proving this with every performance. The repertoire includes music from the early baroque, a huge collection of classical and ancient Viennese music, and even ranges to Blues and modern music.
